Listening Companion for LfLwL Episode 3

Hi there, and thanks so much for joining me on today’s livestream! (If you missed the performance and would like to watch it retroactively, the archived video is available here!)

This post is meant to be a listening companion for Live from Lowville with Love, Episode 3 (premiering at www.facebook.com/ArlenHlusko), and is intended for anyone without a Facebook account who may have difficulty seeing the live comment updates. (If you would like to see the program, please visit here.)

1. First, we will travel to Spain; the Castilla-La Mancha region of central Spain.

2. Next, we head to the Qinghai Province in Northwestern China.

Words of the Folk Song:
”Spring is coming,
Narcissi are blooming,
The maiden is out from her boudoir seeking,
My love boy, lend me a hand, please.”

3. Now, we mosey back to Europe, where we visit Hungary! (Hungary/Romania… Ligeti was Hungarian, but spent some of his life in Romania — and in parts of Romania that were once under the Hungarian Empire.)

4. It’s time to head to India! This music is based on traditional Hindustani Raags “Megh” (which means “cloud”), and “Malhaar” (which is said to be so powerful that, when sung, the music itself can induce rainfall). Here are a couple of links you can check out to hear a sample of the raags, sung.

5. Finally, before we head home, let’s make a stop in Buenos Aires, Argentina… to explore the Tango! (Check out this video, or google “Tango” if you’ve never seen a tango before :))

Thank you for spending some time traveling (responsibly) with me! Stay safe and healthy <3
